Measure a T-Shirt That Already Fits

We suggest using a comfortable T-shirt from each wardrobe as a starting point:

1. Lay the T-shirt flat on a level surface without stretching it.
2. Measure across the chest from one underarm to the other.
3. Measure the length from the high shoulder point beside the neckline to the bottom hem.
4. Double the flat chest width to compare it with the garment chest measurement around the tee, and keep the units consistent.
5. Repeat the process with your son’s T-shirt instead of estimating his size from yours.

Our charts describe chest as the measurement around the garment, not your body measurement. For example, a tee measuring 19 inches across has an approximate garment chest circumference of 38 inches. Compare 38 inches—not 19—with that chart. If you need help interpreting a measurement, contact us before ordering.

Use Age as a Starting Point, Not the Only Measurement

Two boys of the same age can need different chest widths and lengths. Compare both measurements, especially if your son is taller than the age label suggests or usually needs more room across the chest.

If he falls between sizes, consider the difference in both dimensions. A larger tee may provide more width but also have a longer hem. We suggest checking that balance against a T-shirt he enjoys wearing rather than automatically moving up a size.

For an upcoming birthday or shoot, choose with the wearing date in mind. Avoid buying a substantially oversized tee solely to make it last longer; the neckline, sleeves and print placement also need to work for him on the day.
